SOLUTION / UNDERGROUND

Underground Living Capsule

An underground living capsule is a buried modular volume designed for long stays: sleeping, hygiene, storage and technical spaces planned as one living cycle.

01

Protection from soil cover

Soil provides radiation attenuation, thermal stability and concealment. Burial depth, cover thickness and soil class are primary structural inputs.

02

Living space planning

Over long stays, how the volume is divided matters more than its area.

  • Sleeping and rest berths
  • Entry volume separating dirty and clean zones
  • Wet areas and waste management
  • Food and water storage
  • Technical room: filters, power, panels
  • Shared living and communications area
03

Ground and waterproofing

Underground, water is the threat that arrives before blast. Groundwater level, drainage, uplift and external waterproofing are solved per project.

04

Entry, egress and second exit

An independent emergency exit shaft is planned alongside the main entrance. Blocked access is one of the most critical risks in long-duration scenarios.

05

Psychological resilience

Lighting scenarios, noise control, air movement and spatial hierarchy matter as much as technical systems during long stays, and are addressed explicitly in design.

Frequently Asked Questions

How deep is it buried?
Determined by soil class, water table and target protection level; calculated per project.
Is it feasible with high groundwater?
Yes, with waterproofing, drainage and uplift calculations placed at the centre of the design.
